A regular field walk is time well spent.
Small changes are easier to notice when you look at a field regularly. A notebook and a few photographs can make those observations more useful.
Follow a consistent route
Look beyond the field edge. Compare strong and weak areas, observe drainage and note where differences first appear.
Record what you see
Write down the date, crop stage, recent field operations and anything unusual. Photographs taken from the same position make changes easier to compare.
Ask before you act
A symptom can have more than one cause. Share your observations with a qualified local adviser before selecting a product or changing your crop program.
